Research of Intelligent Gas Perception Instrument Based on NDIR and RF Communication Technology

Abstract
According to construct the mine gas wireless sensor system and overcome shortcomings of low accuracy, bad mobiLity and no information networking function that existing in conventional gas detectors, an intelLigent gas perception instrument (GPI) based on non-dispersive infrared detection (NDIR) and microwave RF communication technology was designed. The detailed design of GPI`s hardware and software was described in this paper. The principle and merits of the NDIR gas detection technology used in underground tunnel environment was introduced and an imported infrared sensor which can achieve high precision and wide-range detection was adopted to reaLize gas detection. The microwave RF transmission technology was chosen to reaLize the wireless transmission of the detected data after the study of transmission characteristics of electromagnetic waves in underground restricted space including frequency, attenuation, and power control. Test results show that its detection accuracy is 0.01% when the concentration is less than 10% and communication distance can reach 120m with 915.2 MHz frequency and 10dBm transmission power. This GPI can perceive miner`s safe environment and reaLize active security.
