Ziyang is a materials scientist with solid fundamental knowledge about Materials Science, Chemistry, and Nanotechnology from his Ph.D. training at the University of California, Berkeley, and Tsinghua University. Ziyang has more than 14 years of experience in nanomaterials synthesis, materials characterization and process, catalyst design and analysis, device fabrication, fuel cell, and battery electrode production and assembly, prototyping and scale-up production, and chemical engineering design.
Ziyang has gained strong skills in the following area:
Nanomaterials Synthesis, Assembly, large-scale production, quality control, and assurance (QC, QA).
Electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, HRTEM, Spherical aberration correction TEM), EDS, EELS, and FIB.
Catalyst design and production including ultrafine powder (CeZrO2, TiO2, SnO2), Zeolite (ZSM-5, SAPO-34, and Beta Zeolite), fuel cell electrocatalyst (Pt/Carbon, bimetallic alloy, nonprecious composite materials)
Battery electrode materials synthesis and evaluation including preparation of Lithium (NCM) Nickel Cobalt Manganese Li(NiCoMn)O2, Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePO4, Lithium Sulphur, and analysis of impedance, capacity, etc.
Semiconductor thin film deposition by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) including Metal-Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD) including both reactive sputtering and electron-beam evaporation, ALD, Electrodeposition and Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD)
MEA (Membrane electrode assembly) fabrication and diagnostics, ionomer and composite catalyst layers integration by air-brush, ultrasound spray(Sono-tek), screen printing and spin coating
Materials Characterization by AFM, XPS, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), and GIWAXS.
Quantitative analysis and structure determination of chemicals with chromatographic methods (GC, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS), spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, FTIR, NMR, MS, etc).
Design of Experiments (DOE) and process diagnostics.
Design and build up in situ reaction systems, includes high vacuum systems and laser systems.
