My research follows two cores: understanding and situatedness.
My research areas include HCI, social computing, computer-mediated communication (CMC), qualitative methodology, Science Technology and Society (STS), and a few more. I am an interdisciplinary scholar.
My research focuses on how people communicate through social media/instant messengers, how they appropriate these technologies to meet their own needs, and how such technologies affect these people either positively or negatively. Specifically, I study the way Chinese people use WeChat as a super-app or a “platform-infrastructure.”
