Research Summary
Zelee's research spans several areas of maternal, child and neonatal health including care seeking, improving the performance of community health workers, behaviour change at community and health-worker level, community newborn care, and early child development. At its core her research focuses on interventions implemented at scale in real life settings, that explore cutting edge issues and that have direct policy implications.
She has significant experience working in Africa (Ethiopia, Ghana, Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Nigeria), Latin America (Brazil, Peru, Ecuador), and Asia (Vietnam, India, Pakistan), and with over 30 institutes.
She conduct both qualitative and quantitative research but focus on formative research and process evaluation methodologies. She leads qualitative, formative research and process evaluation teams within large major multi group collaborations and as a PI.
Zelee is currently:
The lead of the formative research and process evaluation teams of the Wellcome Trust funded SUNRISE trial the first to test the impact of mass media on early child development at scale.
The lead of the qualitative evaluation team of the SUNMAP2 project, which is a UK aid-funded £50,000,000 project to support the Nigerian Government’s malaria reduction efforts.
The qualitative lead of the IDEAS2 project, a monitoring, evaluation and learning grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The lead of a study to understand the feasibility of implementing developmental care in intensive care units in Uganda and Malawi.
Co-Investigator on a UKRI funded trial in Ecuador to test scalable ways to support the governments early child development home visit programme.
Co-Investigator on the British Academy funded NECS study to understand child care in informal settlements in Kenya.
