Bio
Zeki Candan completed bachelor's degree in Forest Products Engineering, Istanbul University, as a 2nd. He completed his MSc and PhD studies at Istanbul University. During master and PhD, he visited many universities and research institutions in the United States, Canada, Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and China conducted scientific research. He has carried out scientific studies with the world's leading scientists in the field.
These include The University of Maine, Advanced Structures & Composites Center – ASCC, which is referred to as the world's largest laboratory in composite materials/biomaterials/renewable energy is located in the USA. Candan also worked in the private sector between 2005 and 2006, taking on the role of Secretary Turkish Wood Based Panels Association.
Zeki Candan has carried out numerous qualified international scientific articles, papers, projects, patents and industry studies on the application of nanocomposites/bionanocomposites, biomaterials, applications of nanotechnology in furniture/wood/resin industry, bioadhesives, Industry 4.0, smart products, bioenergy, thermal characterization of materials (DMTA, TMA, TGA, DTA, DSC), and applications of biomaterials in the field of medicine.
Candan, who made his first doctorate studies on the applications of nanotechnology in the wood industry in Turkey, also he made significant contributions in the establishment of the first “Nanotechnology Laboratory” and “Thermal Analysis Laboratory” which conducts research in the fields mentioned in Turkey. Candan continues research with R&D and innovation group named “Biomaterials & Nanotechnology Research Group | BioNanoTeam”. His R&D and innovation studies; it contributes to the development of furniture components with its environmentally friendly, high-performance, durable wood/wood-based composites with reduced formaldehyde emission, antibacterial, dimensional stabilization high, high resistance to fire and biological factors. On the other hand, R&D and innovation studies are continuing on the applications of lignocellulosic bionanomaterials such as nanocellulose and nanolignin in the fields of medical, pharmaceutical, energy, composite, food, electronics.
Zeki Candan received “The Outstanding Young Scientists Award” by Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2019. Candan is still the Turkish Academy of Sciences & TUBA Young Academy Member.
