个人简介
Yury holds both a Diploma & Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia) under the judicious supervision of Prof. Bulat R. Churagulov. Next, Yury carried out three postdocs @Tokyo Institute of Technology with Prof. Masahiro Yoshimura, @Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society with Dr. Annette Trunschke, and @University of Santiago de Compostela with Prof. José Rivas & Prof. M. Arturo López-Quintela. Finally, he joined the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL, Braga, Portugal, http://inl.int), where he is now a tenured group leader of a dynamic Nanochemistry Research Group (http://nanochemgroup.org).
Yury enjoys the synthesis, investigation & application of unconventional nanomaterials. His >20 years of work in Inorganic Chemistry & Material Science has centered on the development of new nanomaterials for clean energy technology applications, such as catalysis, magnetism, photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, and water treatment. Particular emphasis is placed on structure-property relationships in the nanocrystals & nanostructures.
During the first 3 years of his independent career, since 2013, Yury established a vigorous research program on nanomaterials and catalysis at the INL. His early achievement track record during this independent work proves his qualification to conduct independent, ambitious, and disruptive research. In 2016, this led to the creation of the Nanochemistry Research Group at INL. The group started with 3 researchers in Oct 2016 and currently counts around 20 members. Such fast growth would have been impossible without competitive & successful research in an area that merges fundamental questions of chemistry, catalysis, and materials science with important energy & environmental challenges.
The overall research VISION of Yury's group is to provide one-stop exploratory and innovative solutions in the area of nanomaterials, while the MISSION is to use nanochemistry to inspire and implement out-of-box ideas for sustainability.
As a group leader at INL, Yury has supervised a diverse group of postdocs & students. He mentored 20 postdocs (9 female) that received appointments as tenure‐track faculties and postdocs at universities & institutes in various countries. He co-supervised 3 Ph.D. students and is currently co-supervising 3 Ph.D. students (all female), while his former junior research fellows have obtained Ph.D. scholarships or were hired in the industry.
Yury's Google Scholar h-index is 36 (July 2023) and he has given >15 invited talks at international conferences, filed 4 patents, as well as published >125 papers in peer-reviewed journals, along with 3 book chapters. His publications give rise to >5,000 citations with >500 citations in each of the past 3 years.
Yury has coordinated 3 national Portuguese FCT projects, was PI in several Portuguese PT2020 as well as European H2020 projects, and he currently coordinates the H2020 FET OPEN SpinCat project (https://www.spincat.eu).
Yury also played a major role in the establishment of the innovation capacity of businesses, since he is actively involved in many national & international collaborations with companies. The focus is on innovation in energy materials & processes, sustainable solutions for industry, as well as high-end coatings.
