Zhang Yuning

Ms Yuning Zhang received the bachelor degree in Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin, China, in 2013 and the master degree in Beihang University, Beijing, China, in 2017. After that, she joined Prof. David Moss's research group and became a PHD student in Swinburne University of Technology. Ms Zhang’s research fields include integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, and 2D materials. After several years' accumulation, she has mastered detailed theoretical system about nonlinear optics and 2D layered graphene oxide. She also developed considerable experience and extensive expertise about the testing of integrated photonic devices incorporated with graphene oxide for high performing nonlinear optics. As of May 1st of 2022, she has published over 30 papers in SCI journals and EI conference proceedings, highlighted by Advanced Materials, Small Methods, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Advanced Optical Materials, Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics and Journal of Lightwave Technology. In 2020, She won the Wonda Henry prize awarded by the Australia and New Zealand Optical Society, which has only one recipient each year. Ms Zhang’s research work focuses on the integrated photonic devices operating via optical nonlinearities, which offer a powerful solution for all-optical information processing, yielding processing speeds that are well beyond that of electronic processing as well as providing the added benefits of compact footprint, high stability, high scalability, and small power consumption. Her research is not only fascinating in terms of laboratory research but also intriguing for potential practical and industrial applications. It aims to build a strategic bridge between fundamental science and industry to transform integrated photonics into a practical and reliable technology easily utilised by the broader community.
