He is a board certified thoracic surgeon, specializing in the areas of lung, esophageal, mediastinal, and complex airway diseases. In the past 13 years, he has performed more than 3,000 major thoracic surgeries, 700 of which were bronchoscopic procedures for the management of central airway diseases.

Dr. Liu received his medical degree at Taipei Medical University. He completed his training in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei. He is an member of the Formosan Medical Association; Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Republic of China; Taiwan Society of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine; American College of Chest, Taiwan Lung Cancer Society; Taiwan society for Vascular Surgery to name a few. His areas of scientific investigation include the optimal natural orifice surgical platform in thoracic surgery and the development of novel minimally invasive thoracic surgical techniques.

He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including 85 papers in international journals indexed in the SCI-JCR. Today, Dr. Yun-Hen Liu is listed among one of the nation's leaders in the research and development of natural orifice surgery in thoracic surgery. His expertise and unique surgical techniques have attracted patients from around the world including, Canada, China, Thailand, Burma, and Pakistan.
