个人简介
Yun Chen, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering, focuses her research on studying how biophysical and biochemical factors are coordinated to achieve homeostasis, or to facilitate disease, across molecular, cellular and tissue levels. She is a faculty member with the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT) and the Center for Cell Dynamics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Chen directs the Laboratory of Mechanics of Bio-Systems (MOB), which works to develop multiscale, multimodal imaging tools to investigate how mechanics integrates with other biophysical and biochemical factors to sustain normal physiology or to cause pathology. Current projects include a study of the effects of long-range and high forces generated by cancer cells on the tumor microenvironment; designing novel instruments to study the responses of cells and tissues to mechanical stimuli; and mapping heterogeneity among tumors.
Chen received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008. She earned her BS in Zoology (1998) and her master’s degree in Immunology (2000) at National Taiwan University. She worked as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Training Award fellow at the NIH, and as a research fellow at the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences.
