Bio
With a 10+ years of laboratory experience and a PhD in Neuroscience, I am an expert electrophysiologist, behavioral scientist, cell culture specialist and an extremely organized scientist.
My work has resulted in highly-cited peer-reviewed publications in neurodevelopment and therapeutic research, and I have been awarded thousands of dollars in research grants, scholarships, and awards, attributable to my impactful and effective communication skills in both written applications and verbal presentations. My research contributions, collaborations, and presentations have led to several prestigious and competitive awards, including the Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust Dame Dorothy Winstone Doctoral Award, the Physiological Society of New Zealand John Hubbard Prize, and the Mary Bullivant Prize in Physiology.
In addition, I have extensive experience and aptitude in teaching undergraduates, and mentoring and supervising graduate students. I have taught at international courses (the CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme, and the Australasian Course in Advanced Neuroscience), and at the University of Auckland teaching thousands of students in 12 different Physiology, Anatomy and Medical courses and leading large teams of tutors. I have supervised four graduate student projects (6-12 months in length), managing their projects from start to end, and our collective excellence has been reflected in the students’ being awarded maximum scores for their dissertation and first-class degrees. I have also mentored four doctoral students, providing strategic trouble-shooting guidance, project progress advice and support, and scientific and intellectual assistance.
I thoroughly enjoy being at the forefront of human discoveries and being a part of the new wave of knowledge about the brain and therapeutics!
