Yongming Hu(胡永明)

Yongming Hu received the Ph.D. degree in optoelectronics from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1999. He was selected as a Supervisor of Ph.D. students in 2001. He is currently a Professor and is the Academic Leader of the Research Laboratory of Optical Information with the Academy of Ocean Science and Engineering, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), Changsha, China. He has focused on fiber optics and optical fiber sensing technology for many years as the leader of optical fiber sensing subject. He and his group made many breakthroughs in areas such as fiber polarization control technology, coherent detection technology, optical fiber hydrophone, optical fiber gyroscope, etc. Since 2001, 21 Ph.D. students and 24 master students have graduated from NUDT under his supervision. One of his Ph.D. students’ dissertation was nominated as the best 100 Ph.D. dissertations in China. His current research interests include optical fiber sensing, optical fiber laser, optical fiber gyroscope, and underwater acoustic physics.
