Yakubu Joel Atuman was born in Deba, Yamaltu/Deba LGA Gombe State to the family of Rev and Mrs Joel Atuman in 1978. He completed his First Leaving School Certificate Examination at Deba Central Primary School in 1987 and proceeded to Government Science Secondary School Gombe and obtained his Senior School Certificate (SSCE) in 1992. He later secured admissions at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Nigeria and graduated with Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2005, MSc Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and PhD in Wildlife/Food Animal Medicine in February 2018. Dr Yakubu Joel Atuman served his mandatory National Youth Service Corp with Awe LGA Veterinary Clinic Nassarawa State in 2006. After which he secured employment with the National Veterinary Research Institute Vom, Nigeria on 4th July, 2007. He was posted to NVRI Bauchi Outstation in September, 2007 and has since then been able to transformed the Outstation from its previous redundant state to one of the best NVRI outstations in Nigeria. He has authored and co-authored publications in referred journals and conference proceedings. Dr Yakubu Joel Atuman is a consultant to Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS-Nigeria) providing technical support in the area of wildlife chemical immobilization and animal disease surveillance activities.
