Dr. Sun's research has been in modeling, parameter estimation, and development and performance analysis of algorithms for various applications. The accomplishment includes the development of a family of modified Hopfield neural networks, a family of local maximum likelihood detectors for image reconstruction and wireless communications, a local maximum mean approach to the detection of microvessels from MRA images, an approach for robotic to search sources, a biomarkers spectral subspace approach to cancer detection in biopsy, power spectral analysis of pulse train over random time scaling, and an approach to neovascularization assessment of tumor and atherosclerosis in DCE-MRI, as well as a number of other algorithms. Dr. Sun's research interests also include modeling of intimate relationships.
Dr. Sun's recent research interests are in the field of superresolution single molecular localization microscopy (SMLM), including the development of resolution theory, localization algorithms, performance evaluation of localization algorithms, and analysis of biological samples. The accomplishment includes Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for multiple emitters, root mean square minimum distance (RMSMD), information-sufficient segmentation and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and expectation maximization (EM) localization algorithm.
