Bio
Distinguished Professor Xu-Feng Huang's extensive research track record in neuropharmacology, metabolism, and molecular nutrition has led to significant impacts in combatting obesity induced by diet and antipsychotic drugs. His contributions, supported by major Australian competitive funding, include identifying: (a) central leptin resistance in the late stages of obesity resulting in a different treatment strategy, (b) the satiety enhancer oat β-glucan for combating obesity, which was incorporated into the NHMRC Australian Dietary Guidelines 2011, Food Standards ANZ 2015, and used by Uncle Toby's for product development, (c) the site of the antipsychotic drug responsible for obesity, leading to new drug developments, and (d) that mental illness patients with diabetes have worse cognitive functioning, requiring combination therapy. He has published 253 research articles, with over 13,200 citations and supervised 26 PhD students.
