Bio
Xiaoming Zhang is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Hongshen Lecturer funded by Exceptional Fellowship) at Chongqing University, China. He was an outstanding Master's student in Civil Engineering at Southeast University in Jiangsu Province and a President's Doctoral Scholar at the University of Manchester, where he successfully completed his PhD program in three years.
Xiaoming now joins the Wind Turbine Structure research team led by Prof. Xuhong Zhou (Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering) and Prof. Yuhang Wang (National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund recipient), and has been mainly focusing on the mechanical properties of beetle elytron-inspired sandwich structures and their application in the field of wind turbine blades and related lightweight structures.
He has participated in two projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one subproject of the National Key R&D Program, and one open research project of the State Key Laboratory.
He has published 26 SCI papers (13 as the first/corresponding author) in recognized journals such as Thin-Walled Structures and Materials & Design, with total citations of 494, and a maximum citation of 74 for a single first-author paper (ref: Google Scholar).
As the first/second inventor, he has been granted 9 patents to illustrate the application of the beetle elytron-inspired sandwich structures in construction, bridges, aircraft, and other industries.
His research results have been recognized by scholars from universities such as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of California Riverside, the University of Cambridge, and the Technical University of Munich. He serves as a reviewer for several JCR I and II journals, as well as an Assistant Guest Editor for Biomimetic Civil Engineers (JCR II).
