My research has always been focused on the identification of new therapeutic approaches to cure acute, chronic or inherited retinal dystrophies. In the past 20 years, I have acquired and gained expertise in a broad array of technical domains including cellular biology (signal transduction, cytokine synthesis), molecular biology (subtractive libraries, gene transfer) and genetic (gene discovery) to study a variety of retinal cellular processes including neuronal and epithelial cell death, retinal development, angiogenesis and inflammation.
I started my research in Dr Y. Courtois laboratory in Paris after I graduated from Ecole Normale supérieure in Paris. I published 10 articles related to the role of FGF and its receptors in the normal physiology and the pathology of the retina. I then Join Dr D. Farber lab at UCLA. I there characterized a new gene now known as RP1, responsible for retinitis pigmentosa. I was then recruited by INSERM as a junior researcher and came back to Paris in Y. Courtois Lab to create a new team to decipher the mechanism of retinal progenitor differentiation. I identify transcription factors capable of directing retinal progenitor toward a specific cell type differentiation. In 2009, I join Dr Sennlaub’s team at the institute de la vision to identify mechanisms involved in mononuclear phagocytes (MP) accumulation and neuronal toxicity. I have now focused my research on the role of MP in vascular remodeling in diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the identification of therapeutic means to reduce vision-threatening ocular proliferation associated with age related macular degeneration (AMD) and DR.
