Bio
William S. Kerwin (s'96–M'99) received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering (biomedical option) from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1989, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, in 1992, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, in 1999.
While at Johns Hopkins, he held an Abel Wolman Graduate Fellowship and a Whitaker Foundation Graduate Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering. From 1989 to 1995, he served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain in 1993. In 1999, he joined the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he has been a Research Assistant Professor since 2001. His primary research interest is the analysis of cardiovascular MRI with emphasis on time sequences of images. This includes image registration to correct for patient motion over time and statistical image processing for robust estimation of tissue properties. His projects have included reconstruction of cardiac motion and analysis of atherosclerotic lesions in the carotid arteries.
