个人简介
Christopher S. Jacobs received a B.S. degree in applied physics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, in 1983. He is a Senior Engineer with the Deep Space Tracking Systems Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena. His work has centered on producing quasi-inertial reference frames based on observations of extragalactic radio sources. These frames define the angular coordinates used for spacecraft navigation. Mr. Jacobs is a member of AAS and the IAU He has served on IAU working groups for celestial reference frames including chairing the ICRF-3 group from 2012–2015. He co-authored the paper that introduced the extragalactic radio frame (ICRF) as a replacement for optically based definitions of celestial angular coordinates. Jacobs is also known around the world for his public outreach work in astronomy, having been invited to speak everywhere from the Azores to Zambia. His recent research interests have focused on extending the ICRF to higher radio frequency bands such as 24, 32, and 43 GHz. For this work, he was awarded in 2015 the NASA Medal for Exceptional Achievement.
