Bio
Wilfried Goldacker received the diploma and Ph.D. degrees in physics
from the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, in 1976 and 1979, respectively.
From 1979 to 1981, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Department for Molecular Physics, Max-Planck-Institute
for Medical Research, Heidelberg, working on organic conductors and superconductors. Since 1981, he has been a
Researcher with the Department of Superconducting Materials, Nuclear Research Centre Karlsruhe, Institute for
Technical Physics, working on A15, laves phase, chevrel phase, and since 1986 on high-temperature superconductors. In
1990, he became the Head of the department. After the implementation of the research center into the Karlsruhe
Institute of Technology, he became the Head of the Department of Superconducting Materials and Energy Applications
(2007). His main research interests include applicable high-temperature superconductor materials, cables and
conductors and the development of applications for the energy sector, magnets and rotating machinery.
Dr. Goldacker is the President of the board of directors of the International Cryogenics Material Conference
(2013–2015), Advisory Board member of the Centre of Excellence for Superconductivity Research in Ankara
(Turkey), and a member of several conference boards and commissions.
