个人简介
Dr Sabiiti is a biomedical research scientist with 15 years of international research experience between European Union, United Kingdom and Africa. His main research focus is respiratory diseases and antimicrobial resistance. He is one of the brains behind the tuberculosis Molecular Bacterial Load Assay (TB-MBLA), a novel diagnostic that counts live TB bacteria in a patient samples and measures how they change as the patient progresses on treatment. He has a PhD in Bioscience, MSc Molecular biology (Great Distinction) and BSc Biochemistry and Zoology (Upper 2nd Honors) from University of Birmingham UK, Free University of Brussels (Flemish) Belgium and Makerere University Uganda respectively. He is a trained teacher, with a Diploma of Education from Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo Uganda. He has taught biochemistry and microbiology to Bachelor of Nursing Science students; epidemiology, central nervous system infections, respiratory infections to Bachelor of Medicine students; and Infection, interdisciplinary approaches to global health challenges to Master of Global Health Implementation and Master of International Development students. He is one the instructors of the Wellcome Trust Advanced course in genomics and clinical microbiology and the Trainer of Trainers course in Pathogen Genomics.
He is a member of Microbiology Society UK, British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the Union for Lung Health, European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and African Society of Laboratory Medicine. He has served on several panels including the Newton Fund Biomedical Sciences Peer Review panel, Commonwealth Scholarship Commission Academic Advisor panel, National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) college of experts, WHO/TDR SORT-IT Antimicrobial resistance Knowledge Management Consultants and Co-chair of the COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition Virology, Immunology and Diagnostics Working Group.
