个人简介
Wenting You studied Medicine (BSc) and Pharmacy (MSc) in China. During graduate phase, her thesis mainly about Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her interests focus on cardiomyocyte apoptosis, P450 enzymes and how
Chinese medicine monomers (like ginkgolide B, ophiopogonin D) protect cardiomyocyte for apoptosis by regulating the expression of CYP3A4 and CYP2J3. After graduation in 2016, she started her PhD research at the department of Ophthalmology in 2018 in University Eye Clinic Maastricht, the Netherlands. Her project is about retinal ganglion cells death (RGC) in Glaucoma. Apoptosis has been approved is the main death way of RGC in glaucoma, and it has been traditionally assumed to be an intrinsically irreversible cascade that commits cells to death. However, a growing body of evidence has demonstrated that dying cells can exit the initiated death process and recover, even at late stages generally accepted as beyond the ‘point of no return’. This phenomenon is termed as “anastasis”, promoting anastasis may represent as a previously unrecognized beneficial mechanism of preserving differentiated cells that are difficult to replace, such as neurons. So in her project she is going to study the recovery of dying RGCs.
