Bio
My research interests encompass various aspects of healthy aging, including ageism, age-friendly environments (AFEs), technology, communication for healthy aging, and community-based integrated care (CBIC). My work mainly revolves around the healthy aging paradigm, with a policy-oriented approach aimed at driving community impact. Currently, I am conducting postdoctoral research on Aging without Children, which has received funding from the Swedish Research Council. The objective of this study is to explore how aging individuals plan and prepare for childless aging and examine the construction of meanings related to later-life childlessness. Through my academic endeavors, I strive to contribute to the field of healthy aging, aiming to shape evidence-informed policies and foster positive community outcomes.
Between 2021 and 2023, I worked as a full-time on-site consultant at WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, focusing on evidence-informed policy advocacy and knowledge sharing to support countries in promoting healthy aging. Specifically, I updated COVID-19 guidance for older persons, coordinated the production of a Lancet series on healthy aging, and produced three WHO videos sharing experiences of creating age-friendly environments. In 2022, I collaborated with Palau’s Ministry of Health and Human Services (MoHHS) to develop its national aging policy. Through research, advocacy, and consultations, we actively involved older adults and stakeholders in data collection, interpretation, and policy development. This collaborative effort resulted in the National Policy on Care for the Aging, signed by the President of Palau in April 2023. The policy aims to transform systems, ensuring better support for healthy aging and designing pilot aging programs for immediate implementation.
