个人简介
My research interests are not taxonomically constrained but rather focus on the paleontology and stratigraphy of Monterey Bay and surrounding regions. Mainly concentrating on Neogene and Quaternary Formations, I have focused research interests in Miocene to Pleistocene vertebrates, mollusks, and foraminifera. I grew up in a park of life-sized animatronic dinosaurs during the 1960's called the Lost World that my father built and began my current local research interests 42 years ago in 1976.
In 2022 I formed Pacific Paleontology, a company in the Monterey Bay Area dedicated to Paleontological conservation and education. The regulatory landscape of mitigation paleontology in California has changed significantly in the past 20 years owing largely to legislative protections for fossils and best practices in mitigation paleontology from the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology and others. But more advancement is needed. For example, there is a need to have professional Principal Paleontologists with an extensive California background on site during a great many construction projects that have not been identified as potentially significant. A professional paleontologist is someone who is published in paleontology, educated and degreed in paleontology, experienced in both field and research, and employed in the paleontological profession. It would add regulatory capacity to the municipal and jurisdictional operations of any project to have a professional Principal Paleontologist on the team. At Pacific Paleontology, we provide the services to efficiently remediate protected fossil artifacts from your worksite and pass your mandated Terms and Conditions for paleontological mitigation with required reports submitted in a timely fashion.
