Career Trajectory
Bio
Virginia G. de Yebenes (Detroit, USA 1972) obtained her BS degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1995. De Yebenes received her PhD and First Class Honours distinction from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2002. Dr. de Yebenes joined Almudena R. Ramiro’s group at the Spanish National Oncology Research Center (Madrid) as a postdoctoral fellow.
In 2009 de Yebenes was awarded a Ramon y Cajal research position and her scientific career has been acknowledged as with an outstanding research trajectory certificate from the Spanish National Evaluation Agency in 2014.
She joined the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares in 2011 where she worked as a Research Associate in the B Cell Biology Lab until her appointment as Associate Professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2019. She has focused her work in the characterization of the role of microRNAs in the regulation of mature B cell biology and oncogenic transformation processes. She has published 7 highly cited articles in this topic in the most important journals of the field (Journal of Experimental Medicine IF: 15.5-cited 164 times, Immunity IF: 24.2, Immunol Rev IF: 12.2, Blood IF: 10.5, Blood IF: 13.2; Trends Immunol IF:13 and a book chapter in Methods in Molecular Biology). Dr. de Yebenes has directly contributed to the scientific mentoring of students in the B cell Lab laboratory, and has codirected the PhD work of Nahikari Bartolomé Izquierdo (UAM 2016) and the Master work of Teresa Fuertes Novella (UAM 2017) about the role of microRNAs in oncogenic transformation and the clinical applications of microRNA restauration in non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The applications of the results of these works have been patented. Dr. de Yebenes obtained an “Investigador AECC” grant in 2018 to develop these research lines and a grant as principal investigator from the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación in the National I+D+i 2019 call to study the contribution of microRNAs to oncogenic B cell transformation.
During her research career Dr. de Yébenes has published 27 scientific articles, 12 as principal author and 4 as corresponding author. These articles have been published in high-impact journals (25 of them in First Quartile and 20 of them in First Decil) and have had a relevant contribution in the field, as shown by different bibliometric parameters 944 total citations, 68 average citations/year in the last 5 years, high citation percentile in recent publications, and a h index of 19.
