个人简介
My journey began at SUNY Downstate for medical school, Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center for general surgical residency and The Ohio State University for surgical critical care fellowship training. Shortly after, I joined Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a trauma surgeon, intensivist and Director of its Metabolic Support Service. In addition to directing the metabolic support service, I gained experience as the co-director of the SICU just prior to being recruited back to NY to join the Northwell Health system to build the nontrauma acute care surgery service at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, one of the health system’s two flagship tertiary care hospitals. Currently, I am the Chief of Acute Care Surgery (Emergency General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care) and the Surgical Quality Officer at LIJMC, the Vice-chair of Academic Affairs for the North Shore University Hospital/LIJ Department of Surgery. I completed a five-year tenure as the general surgery residency program director (graduating eight chief residents yearly, no citations) in June 2022.
My track record includes building a mature ACS service from just three docs to seven providing 24/7 in-house coverage of a multi-surgical specialty critical care unit and busy emergency general surgery service. I am proud of my recruitment efforts at both the faculty and trainee level in terms of wide breadth of representation and expertise and this is something I am deeply committed to continuing in my future.
Although my research efforts have spanned a variety of subjects from nutrition support to surgical education, you will see that I have published on our division’s successful redeployment of clinicians and resources during the height of the early first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In my expanded role as Vicechair for Academic Affairs, I am mentoring junior faculty in all disciplines of surgery and residents in building robust research portfolios. I look forward to continue developing the “Surgery Residents Research Forum,” a digital infrastructure that has seen exponential increase in research productivity and our collaboration with our health system’s Graduate School of Molecular Medicine in supporting the early careers of our academic surgeons and training MD/PhDs among our clinical residents.
