Victoria Namulawa Tibenda is a Ugandan female scientist, with an over twenty (20) years’ experience in fisheries and aquaculture research. Victoria has a Bachelor’s degree in Botany and Zoology, a Master’s degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Science, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Makerere University, plus a PhD in Ichthyology and Fisheries Science from Rhodes University, South Africa. Added to this; she has gotten training in project planning and resource mobilization, aquaculture production and management, communicating scientific information to nonscientists, and management for impact. Her area of specialization is fish nutrition, and she has great interest in value addition. She has worked as a Fisheries Officer at the local government before joining the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO). She is currently a Senior Principal Research Officer and heading the Aquaculture Research & Development Center, in Uganda. She is a member of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and has been part of several regional and national research project teams such as the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Program (LVEMP), the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), the Millennium Science Initiative (MSI), the EU funded AIRTEA and the IDRC insect for livestock project. She is an African Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) fellow (2015-16) and has guided several graduate and undergraduates research students and reviewed several manuscripts. Victoria has been a Principal Investigator and co-investigator in several research projects involving different fish species including tilapia, African catfish, Chinese carps, Nile perch, Alestes nurse and Alestes baramoze, that have resulted into innovations and several publications. She is also member of the Regional Research and Development Working Group of the East African Community – East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), since 27/07/2022; member of the mentorship group of AGRA’s Center of African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA), since January 2022; and member of the National Agricultural Research Organization Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, since July 2022.
