Bio
During my undergraduate research, I performed an investigation of role of HTLV-1 transactivator protein TAX-1 in activation of latent HIV-1 virus, using latency model cell lines (J-Lats). In my Masters, I have researched microRNAs dysregulated during Oropouche Virus infection, an emergent and endemic arbovirus associate with mild febrile illness (and, in some cases, with neurological outcomes), and also microRNAs dysregulated during Zika infection in stillborn samples. During my Ph.D., I kept my investigation about microRNAs dysregulated by Oropouche Virus infection. In the meantime, I have conducted an investigation about the host cellular genes modulated by four different arboviruses from three distinct families, Chikungunya Virus, Mayaro Virus, Oropouche Virus and Zika Virus, in human primary astrocytic cells obtained from brain surgery samples. This study was the first transcriptome described for Mayaro Virus and Oropouche Virus, two important emergent arboviruses circulating in South America. At the moment, I am Postdoctoral Fellow in Federal University of Minas Gerais (MG – Brazil), working in projects related to genomic/epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 using deep-sequencing, genotyping and identification of SARS-CoV-2 variants, molecular diagnostics of SARS-CoV-2 through RT-qPCR and modulation of host cell translation in Oropouche Virus infected cells. I have broad experience in molecular biology, Virology, cell culture, as well as techniques used in those fields, such as eukaryotic cells transfection, infection, fluorescent microscopy, cell cytometry, RT-qPCR, Western Blot, plaque assay, sequencing, as well as procedures related to BSL-3 environment work. I am currently working in a development of new class of antiviral compound proven to be effective (by our preliminary data) against a broad group of positive strand RNA viruses belonging to different viral families, especially, but not restrict to, against SARS-CoV-2, Chikungunya and Dengue viruses. Those viruses pose a potential emergent and reemergent epidemic/pandemic threat, which renders the development of new therapeuticals of uttermost urgency.
