Prof. Dr. Vicente Compañ
Grade in Physics in June of 1978 at University of Valencia. Later I obtained the degree of Doctor by the Valencia University in 1988. From 1988 until the creation of Jaume I University, I was Associate Professor in the Physical Applied Department of the Valencia University. From March of 1993 until 2001 I was Assistant Professor at Jaume I University. From 2001 until 2007 I was Professor in Services Commission at Applied Thermodynamics Department of Polytechnic University of Valencia. From 2007 I am Full Professor at Thermodynamics Department in the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). I have been a visiting researcher in Technical University of Denmark (Lyngby) and Technical University of Helsinki. Nowadays, I am the Research Manager of the Fuel Cells area in Thermodynamics Department (UPV), partially formed by members of the Department and of different departments of UPV. The result of her scientific activity has given rise, among other contributions, to more than 130 papers, 10 books chapters in different fields such as, gas and ionic transport through membranes, membranes characterization, Impedance Electrochemical Spectroscopy, Direct Metanol Fuel Cells (DMFC) and PEMFC. Prof Compañ has participated in the realization of two monographies and more than 100 communications in different international symposium with the presentation of at least 5 invited conferences and key-note speaker.
The scientific publications are mainly focused on ionic transport in exchange membranes, gas diffusion, studies of membranes conductivities and oxygen diffusion and permeability in hydrogels membranes to be applied as contact lenses. From 1988 I have participated in more than twenty five R&D projects and have participate in more than 80 Internationals Symposiums where I give different lecturers as invited professor. My current research interests is: (a) correlation between the structure peculiarities and electrotransport properties of the charged synthetic membranes in dependence on chemical nature of polymer matrix, (b) Electrochemistry characterization of protonic exchange membranes for fuel cells application, basically for PEMFC and DMFC. (c) Characterization of dielectric and mechanical properties of polymeric membranes. (d) Oxygen, ionic and drug transport in hydrogels membranes to be applied as contact lenses, (e) Study of oxygen consumption rate into the cornea as a consequence of oxygen tension at the interface cornea-tears-lens. He has supervised four PhD Thesis. He a studied also different electrochemical problems including the insertion of nanofibers into the polymeric matrix to build nanocomposites with applications to energy systems such as fuel cells, batteries, supercapacitors and electrolyzers.
