个人简介
Dr. Verónica Azcutia earned her PhD in Pharmacology studying the pathophysiology of the vascular endothelium under inflammatory conditions in the laboratory of Dr. Carlos Sánchez-Ferrer and Dr. Concepción Peiró at the Autónoma de Madrid University (Madrid, Spain). Dr. Azcutia did her postdoctoral training in Dr. Bill Luscinskas Lab at the Pathology department at the Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) in 2009. During this period, Dr. Azcutia specialized in vascular immunology and leukocyte interaction with vascular endothelium during inflammatory processes. Her studies focused in the role of the ubiquitous glycoprotein CD47 during leukocyte recruitment to inflamed areas. During this time, Dr. Azcutia was awarded with a research fellowship from the Caja Madrid Foundation (Spain), and a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association (AHA).
In 2015, Dr. Azcutia joined the department of Pathology at the University of Michigan, in Dr. Charles Parkos? lab, where she is currently exploring regulatory mechanisms of neutrophil infiltration within the intestinal mucosa during inflammation. In 2017, Dr. Azcutia was granted a career development award from the Crohn?s and Colitis Foundation (CCF), and in 2019, she was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology (UM).
She is a member of the Society of Mucosal Immunology (SMI), the Society of Leukocyte Biology (SLB) and the American Society of Investigative Pathology (ASIP) where she has been recognized with the Post-Doctoral Merit Award (2013), the George K. Michalopoulos Junior Faculty Award (2017), as well as multiple travel awards to attend scientific meetings to present her research.
