Bio
Ana Vaz accomplished her PhD in December 2010, focused mainly on the role of oxidative stress, mitochondrial function and cell bioenergetics in the molecular mechanisms of nerve cell injury. Since 2011, Ana has been exploring the molecular mechanisms associated with neuroinflammation and neurotoxicity in cellular and animal models of disease, particularly in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. She is involved in projects aiming to understand the role of each cell type (neurons, astrocytes, microglia) and their communication for the neurodegenerative process. Current research aims to develop an exosome-based therapy by targeting microRNAs in specific cells using mice and human models. Ana has authored several peer reviewed papers in the field of neurosciences, neuroinflammation and neurochemistry (ORCID: 0000-0002-3418-3269; ResID: M-5149-2013. Teaching areas: Human Anatomy and Neurosciences.
