Bio
Aratz Garcia holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Basque Country, (Spain) and Masters and PhD degree in Computational Mechanics from University of Burgos (Spain). The PhD was cosupervised by University of Burgos and Tecnalia Research & Innovation (Spain). An internship was also completed at the University of Texas at Austin (USA) during the PhD. These fact gave industrial and international qualification to it. His education was complemented with courses in Coastal Engineering (IH Cantabria) and Numerical methods (CIMNE) and conferences/seminar in the field of numerical methods.
He worked at the Department of Infrastructures at Tecnalia Research & Innovation where he developed a Finite Element Method (FEM) to study fracture mechanics of fiber reinforced concrete. Elastoplastic and damage models were implemented in a FEM to predict the behavior of reinforced concrete beams. The developed code was thoroughly validated with experiments carried out at the Laboratory of Large Civil Engineering Structures of the University of Burgos. He get experience in industry and technology transfer centers.
Currently, his research pursuits are focused primarily on the development of physics-based model to define Predictive Digital Twin. More specifically, he is working in a framework to predict the failure of elements (structures, mooring chain, etc.) in real-time. The developed framework is based on Finite Elment Method (FEM), Reduced Order Models (ROM) and Machine Learning to take advantage of the data and reduce uncertainities.
His research interests include development of computational models, finite element analysis, continuum mechanics, physics-based models, ROM and machine learning in any field of engineering.
