Bio
Currently, I am a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Lab. of Immunology and Applied Biology located at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences of the University of Milan (Italy).
Previously I was a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Innate Immunity Lab located at the Scientific and Technological Pole (IRCCS MultiMedica, Milan, Italy) where I worked as Cell and Molecular Biologist with a strong focus on signal transduction pathway(s), cancer therapy and immune modulation.
Earlier, I obtained my Doctoral Degree at the University of Milan-Bicocca where I was involved in several projects at the interface between pharmaceutical biology and pharmacology. My work was primarily related to the study of inflammatory pathways modulation in innate immune cells (macrophages and microglial cells). As a Doctoral Researcher, I was responsible for designing and performing cell-based assays, collecting and analysing data and images (from immunoblotting and immunofluorescence), supervising trainee students (Master's and younger PhD candidates), managing the entire lab and establishing collaboration with other research groups.
Main goal of my research activity was to understand the impact of natural and synthetic molecules on inflammatory cascades and, ultimately, identify their molecular target(s) and mechanism(s) of action. Results have been published/submitted in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, thanks to an internship at IRCCS MultiMedica, I have learned how to handle and isolate primary monocytes from human blood and to differentiate them into macrophages. Moreover, thanks to a partnership with the industry (PerkinElmer Inc.) I also had the chance to collaborate in a very challenging project involving microbiota-derived metabolites and high-content imaging. This has led to the publication of a White Paper and my participation at the annual High-Content Screening User Group Meeting as an Invited Speaker this year. Let me say that this has been a big achievement for me that I love cellular imaging and disseminating science.
I think that what characterized the most my career up to now, was the ability to maintain a child-like curiosity about the natural world, together with the flexibility to synthetize ideas from disparate fields and create a new vision, while always keep it fun.
