Valdeir Junio Vaz Moreira holds a degree in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Viçosa (2016) and a master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2019). He is currently a doctoral student at the Molecular Biology Program at the University of Brasília. Since 2017, he has been working as a researcher at the Molecular Plant-Pest Interaction laboratory (LIMPP-I) at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (CENARGEN) under the supervision of Prof(a). Dr. Maria Fatima Grossi de Sa. In 2021, he was awarded a doctorate scholarship by the CAPES-COFECUB project to carry out his research activities at the Institute de la Rechérche Agronomicque - INRAE, in Sophia Antipolis, France, under the supervision of Dr. Janice de Almeida Engler. In his research work, he aims to understand which genes of plant pathogens can be targeted by the RNA interference technique (RNAi) to be applied in Brazilian agriculture. He was a CAPES distinguished fellow in 2022 for the discovery of parasitism genes as a promising target by RNAi for the control of the root-knot nematode - Meloidogyne incognita. It also works in the prospection and characterization of resistance genes and plant promoters for the development of gene cassettes for the generation of genetically modified plants (soybean and cotton) for the control of cyst- and root-knot nematodes. Furthermore, it aims to understand which signaling pathways related to plant immunity are involved with resistance against these same pathogens for the development of genetic circuits in elite cultivars in the field. He has extensive experience in Molecular Biology (gene restriction cloning, GATEWAY, Golden Gate Cloning, PCR, RT-qPCR, BiFC, chromatin and protein immunoprecipitation, western blot, EMSA, mono and two yeast hybrid, transient expression of proteins and RNAs in plant cells, enzyme activity and plant physiology); in Cell Biology (light microscopy, Z-stack confocal, staining techniques using acidic and basic dyes) and also in product generation. Due to his great motivation and determination for science, he received the award at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology in First place in the Student Talent Contest, first place in the 10th Molecular Biology Symposium of the University of Brasília and first place in the Seventh International Congress of Nematology , France.
