Bio
Vittorio Di Vito, PhD, Head of the CIRA Air Transport Sustainability laboratory since 2015.
Project Manager of the CIRA-COAST, CIRA-EATS and CIRA-PROSA projects and Senior Researcher. Research engineer at CIRA since 2009 in the Air Traffic Management Dept. and from 2004 to 2008 in the Flight Systems Dept.
His research and development activities are in the field of autonomous flight systems development, with particular emphasis on algorithms and systems for automatic traffic avoidance and collision avoidance, automatic navigation through 3D/4D waypoints, automatic landing, RPAS integration, ATM system resilience engineering.
He participated in the EDA project MIDCAS as technical leader of the CIRA contribution to the Traffic Avoidance sub-system development and is currently participating in the SESAR JU project RAID, as the responsible of the CIRA designed Integrated System for Automatic Separation Assurance, Collision Avoidance and Situational Awareness. He also participated in the SESAR JU project SAFECORAM, in the EU VII FP projects PPLANE and 4DCo-GC and in the Italian national projects TECVOL and TECVOL II.
He has been also member of the GARTEUR task forces FM-AG 18 “Towards greater Autonomy in Multiple Unmanned Air Vehicles” (2009-2014) and FM-AG 14 “Autonomy in UAVs” (2004-2007). Vittorio is author of many papers on both scientific journals and conference proceedings, member of the editorial board of the SAGE Journal of Aerospace Engineering and associated editor of the SAGE JAERO Special Issue in ATM.
He previously carried out research activities in the field of Power Systems analysis and optimization at University of Cassino (Italy), Industrial Engineering Dept., and worked as Professor of Electrical Engineering at Nautical School of the Italian Financial Police.
Vittorio received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and his cum laude master degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Cassino, in 2005 and 2001 respectively.
