Bio
Hanna V. Danylovych was born on May 20, 1974 in Kyiv. In 1999, she graduated from the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy (Master of Biology). Since 1999, she has been working at the O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From August 1, 2016, to the present time as a Senior Scientist of the Department of Muscle Biochemistry. During 1999-2004, she studied at the post-graduate course at O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
In 2006, she defended her thesis for the degree of candidate of biological sciences (Ph.D.) on the topic "Kinetic properties of smooth muscle plasma membrane Mg2+-dependent ATPase" in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry. In 2022, she defended her thesis for the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences on the topic "Biosynthesis and regulatory role of nitric oxide in smooth muscle mitochondria" in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry.
Scientific research by H.V. Danylovych is related to the elucidation of the biochemical and physicochemical mechanisms of the action of reactive nitrogen and oxygen on the Ca2+ transport systems of the myometrium. They also relate to the study of nitric oxide biosynthesis in the mitochondria of uterine smooth muscle cells, the possibility of its regulatory influence on Ca2+ homeostasis, electrical potential, and other bioenergetic characteristics of these organelles. Also H.V. Danylovych is researching macrocyclic polyphenolic compounds calix[4]arenes as promising selective modulators of mitochondrial Ca2+ transport systems. The obtained experimental data deepen the understanding of the regulation of Ca2+ homeostasis in smooth muscle cells. The presented results answer questions about the endogenous formation and functional activity of nitric oxide in mitochondria. The work carried out expands knowledge about the biochemical mechanisms of the influence of nitric oxide on the transport of Ca ions in mitochondria and their bioenergetics. The obtained results may be useful for the search for effective regulators of the contractile function of smooth muscles, both based on nitric oxide donors/precursors or directed regulation of NO formation in mitochondria, and among representatives of calix[4]arenes, which are non-toxic to mammals.
Research results have been published in professional national and international journals, and presented at Ukrainian and international scientific conferences, congresses, and congresses. H.V. Danylovych published about 70 scientific papers and monograph "Active forms of nitrogen and oxygen species in biochemical processes of calcium ion transport and polarization of subcellular structures of smooth muscle" (2019).
Awarded for the best publication in 2018 in the BioTechnologia Journal, Waclaw Szybalski Foundation (Republic of Poland): "Methodology of Petri networks for simultaneous evaluation of the impact of different modifiers on the fluorescence of nucleotides from electron transport chain in isolated mitochondria and on the process of swelling" (BioTechnologia vol. 99(1), pp. 37–48, 2018).
In 2023 Hanna Danylovych received Palladin award of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in biochemistry.
