Vasily Glukhikh is a famous Russian scientist, a specialist in the field of thermonuclear energy, one of the founders of the creation of magnetohydrodynamic generators. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Scientific Director of D.V. Efremov Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparaturs. Awardee of the Lenin Prize, the State Prize of the USSR in the field of science and technology, the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology, the Prize of the International Association of Thermonuclear Scientists, the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in Science and Technology.
In the 1970s - 1980s. he led the research and development of high-power lasers of continuous and pulsed-periodic action. He contributed to the development of pulsed electric power engineering, electrophysical instrumentation, the creation of the engineering and physical base of thermonuclear energy. One of the founders of the creation of the theory and fundamentals of the design of magnetohydrodynamic electrical machines with liquid metal working fluid. Under his leadership the 1st Russian toroidal thermonuclear installation "Alpha", the largest domestic tokamaks T-15 and TSP, the Angara-5 complex were designed; the world-class results in the development of technology of magnetic confinement of thermonuclear plasma, inductive methods of energy storage and conversion, the creation of unique superconducting electromagnets were achieved; modeling and testing of systems of the international thermonuclear reactor - ITER tokamak were performed.
The initiator of the creation of the largest in the North-West region of the Center of technological lasers.
An author of about 150 scientific papers, 3 monographs, 20 inventions. Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on pulsed energy, the Scientific Council on the complex problem of "Energy" of the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Academician of the Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Academy of Electrical Sciences. Member of the Presidium of the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
