Bio
Uwe Kühnapfel (Member, IEEE) received the Diploma in electrical engineering and control systems from the University of Stuttgart, Stuggart, Germany, in 1985, and the Dr.-Ing. degree with the University of Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, in 1991. He is a Senior Scientist and Research Division Head for Energy System Integration with the Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany. He worked for three years as a KIT-delegate with the European Fusion Energy project JET, Culham Labs, England. Since 1988, he holds a permanent position with KIT within various national research programmes of the Helmholtz-Society, Germany. He is also responsible for a number of 3rd party projects with industry participation (Siemens, Hitachi Energy, a number of electricity TSOs and DSOs). His research interests include electricity grid modeling and simulation, PHIL, energy system integration, and grid control.
