U. C. Mohanty received the Ph.D. degree in tropical meteorology from Odessa Hydro-Meteorological Institute, Ukraine, Ukraine, in 1978. He has about 45 years of teaching and research experience in atmospheric sciences, with 20 years as a Professor with the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi, New Delhi, India. He is a Visiting Professor with IIT Bhubaneswar, Bhubaneswar, India. He has authored about 270 scientific articles and book chapters in the field of atmospheric sciences. He has made significant innovative contributions to advance understanding and prediction of the Indian monsoon, tropical cyclones, severe thunderstorms, etc., using observations from specialized field experiments and the state-of-the-art assimilation and modeling systems.
