Vector-borne pathogens encounter a multitude of environmental stresses as they cycle between their mammalian hosts and arthropod vectors. My laboratory is interested how environmental stresses affect the metabolism, gene expression, and overall virulence of the Lyme disease spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and the relapsing fever spirochete Borrelia turicatae.
