个人简介
Dr. Wenzel is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC). He obtained his Masters degree (2013) and PhD (2017) from the University of Cambridge, Department of Physics, and performed postdoctoral research at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge until 2018. He then held an interdisciplinary Marie Curie Fellowship at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, before joining the IIBM end of 2020.
"In my research I want to decipher how biological systems function and remain healthy through their complex interactions of cells. I lead a team that develops microfluidic methods for high-throughput multi-omics screens that are capable to address such big new biological questions. The fundamental technology needed already exists theoretically in most cases, but it is often either impractical to apply to real complex biological samples and questions, or it is too expensive or bulky to be used. My team therefore not only focuses on the development of new methods, but also in re-inventing automated instruments in a low-cost and open-source way that can be recreated and applied in most places of the world."
