Career Trajectory
Bio
From 2008 to 2012, Ting completed her Bachelor’s degree in Geography Science in Jilin University, Northeastern China. Her full-time postgraduate study, from 2012 to 2015, comprised one year of coursework study and two years of research. Her thesis was on the carbon and helium geochemistry of Tianchi Volcano, Northeastern China. The study was completed under Jiaqi Liu, a preeminent Chinese Volcanology and Quaternary Environmental Scientist. After graduation, she was employed by Jilin Earthquake Agency for 4 years, from 2015 to 2019 and the work was mainly research on earthquake precursors, such as Radon.
Currently she is a PhD student in James Cook University, working on the sediment of Lake Barrine that documents past changes in forest-savanna boundaries. The goal of her work is to create a detailed, continuous timeline for the environmental and climate change of tropical northeastern Australia from 18,000 cal.yr.B.P. to present and inform the possible future climate. She aims to reconstruct the paleoclimate and paleoenvironment in this area through chronology, inorganic geochemistry and carbon and hydrogen isotopes of biomarkers.
