RESEARCH, PROFESSIONAL INTEREST
- Optimizing and quality assurance of molecular morphology techniques including
immunocytochemistry and and in situ hybridization to reveal molecular background
of tumour development, progression, prognosis and therapy response.
- Studying the role of gap junction direct cell-cell communication in health and
disease, and regeneration/healing processes with particular attention to the
lymphoreticular/immune system, cornea, skeletal muscle and malignancies
- Utilization of tissue microarray (TMA) and digital microscopy for prognostic and
predictive biomarker screening and automated image analysis of tumors. Special
interest in skin, breast and colorectal cancer, lymphoreticular and bone tumors.
Scholarships and Research Grants:
1990-1991 Research fellowship (one year) from the Japanese Society for the
Promotion of Science (JSPS), at Kagawa Medical School
1994-1996 Post-Doctoral Fellowship (two years) from the Wellcome Trust, at
University College London (UCL)
Visiting Grant from the British Council-OMFB between UCL and the
University of Szeged
Research Grant from OTKA (T 22277, Hungary) for gap junction research

visit at UCL Anatomy and Developmental Biology
Research Grant from ETT (40/2000, Hungary) for investigating the
principle of wet-heat induced epitope retrieval
2000-2003 Research Grant from OTKA (T32928, Hungary) for gap junction research
2003-2004: Royal Society, UK; "visiting grant" (2 year, short visits), gap junctions in early
muscle development and regeneration
