Professor Thomas Schutzius is an assistant professor of multiphase thermal Fluids and surface nanoengineering at ETH Zurich.
Prior to that, He was head of the Thermodynamics Laboratory for Emerging Technologies (interdepartmental and micro-nano transport Phenomena and Thermodynamics) at the same university. In 2008 and 2013, he received his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his graduate studies, he received the Dean's Scholar Award and the UIC Outstanding Paper Award. He then won an ETH Fellowship, which fully funded his post-doctoral research at ETH Zurich. In 2018, he attended the prestigious Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) in Singapore and the ETH Zurich conference. In 2019, he was awarded a prestigious ERC start-up grant to support his research on understanding the fundamentals of surface (scaled) lime scale formation and using this knowledge to properly design scale-resistant surfaces for hydro-energy relationships applications.
