Bio
Dr Thierry Beths joined the University of Melbourne Faculty of Veterinary Science in February 2012 as the new Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia. In January 2016, he obtained the title of Associate-Professor through an internal and external peer-review process.
He is currently Head of the Anaesthesia service and Deputy Chair of the Animal Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences.
Dr Thierry Beths graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Liege, Belgium, in 1994, and he continued his education by completing a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal and a one-year junior lectureship in Diagnostic Imaging. During this time, Dr Beths also worked for the out of hours and emergency clinic.
Dr Beths joined Ross University (DeVry) in November 2005 and received the Ron Taylor Award for Outstanding Performance in 2006 and 2008.
Before this, Dr Beths was a full-time clinician in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University of Glasgow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, where he received a Certificate of Veterinary Anesthesiology. He was also working in a private emergency service (Vets Now).
Dr Beths completed a residency program in Anesthesiology at the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, in 2000 before graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in 2008, researching Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) in the canine patient.
Dr Beths’ interests are TIVA, pain management and rehabilitation, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). He got certified in Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA) from the Chi Institute and China National Society of TCVM, Florida (USA), as well as in Pain Management (CVPP) from the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management.
He recently (2020) graduated with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh with a Master in Clinical Pain Management (MSc(Dist)).
