Bio
Pharmacist graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ/Brazil). In 2007, I started my scientific career at the Laboratory of Evaluation and Synthesis of Bioactive Substances (LASSBio), a Medicinal Chemistry laboratory belonging to UFRJ, as an intern (CNPq grant). During this period, I was engaged in two projects targeting the organic synthesis of bioactive compounds (cardioactive and antipsychotic) employing different approaches and their purification and characterization (1H and 13C NMR, melting point, IR, elemental analysis, MS and HPLC). Meanwhile, I had the opportunity to attend a four-month internship programme in the USA. In 2014, I pursued my Masters in Chemistry (CAPES grant) at LASSBio/UFRJ, working towards the design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of new aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) inhibitors analogous to the isoflavonoid Daidzine as modulators of cocaine addiction. After obtaining my Master's degree, I worked for three years (from 2014 to 2017) as a pharmaceutical manager. In this role, I was in charge for technical tasks, such as dispensing prescriptions and advising patients; and administrative tasks, such as managing staff, ordering and stocking, leading and implementing policies and procedures. In 2018, I started my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy at University of Porto/Portugal. I collaborated on two projects covering the fields of analytical chemistry and biochemistry. From January 2018 to June 2020, I joined a project aiming to investigate therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis at Applied Chemistry Laboratory. From September 2020 to July 2022, I joined a project aiming to evaluate how inflammatory mediators produced by ovarian macrophages could affect human granulosa cell functions at Laboratory of Biochemistry. On both projects, I got expertise in cell-based work, such as isolation of primary cells and cell culture. I also gained several experiences in in vitro studies (evaluation of COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme activities) and molecular biology techniques (RT-PCR and Western blotting) to detect the expression of COX-2 and 5-, 12-, and 15-LOXs enzymes. I got my PhD degree in July 2022. From September 2022 to February 2023, I lectured Biochemistry laboratory classes for students of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Porto. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at Laboratory of Nutrition, Growth and Quality of Fish (LANUCE) from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), focusing on the development of an in vitro cell culture model to evaluate the phagocytic and immunological activity of intestinal cells.
