个人简介
Tak Lee was Director of the Medical Research Council and Asthma UK Centre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma at King’s College London and Imperial College until September 2011. This is a pioneering partnership between two universities, their partner NHS Foundation Trusts, MRC and the charity Asthma UK.
Lee was also Asthma UK’s clinical Professor and a vice-President of the Charity. In addition he was a consultant allergist and Head of Asthma and Allergy at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London, respectively, where he established one of the largest and most comprehensive NHS allergy service treating both children and adults. The clinical service was commended by the Science and Technology Subcommittee of the House of Lords in 2007 and has been identified as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Health. He advised the Joint Formulary Committee of the British Medical Association and Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain on allergy and anaphylaxis.
Lee researches into key unresolved questions on aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease and why some patients with severe asthma do not respond well to treatment. He was appointed one of the first 100 Senior Investigators of the UK National Institute of Health Research. He has published over 400 papers and reviews on asthma and allergy (h-index 72; scopus). The objective of his research is to inform development of new treatments and approaches to prevention.
He was previously President of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) and also Chaired the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Pathologists Joint Committee for Immunology and Allergy in the UK.
He graduated from Cambridge University (first class honours) in 1972; awarded his Doctor of Science degree by the University in 1996; elected a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2000; and elected a Fellow of King’s College in 2007. He was a member of King’s College Council, the governing body of the University 2010-11.
He retired from King's College London in September 2011 and became the Director of a new Allergy Centre in the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital from March 1st 2012. He was appointed a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2012 for his contributions to asthma and allergy research. He was elected President of the Hong Kong Institute of Allergy (HKIA) in 2014.
As President of HKIA he has overseen a doubling of HKIA’s membership and has increased the public and professional profile of the discipline of Allergy in HK. He has created more opportunities for training of aspiring allergists and allied health professionals. He has promoted an environment to facilitate discovery of new knowledge and finally progressed an agenda to help improve clinical allergy services. In 2016 HKIA honoured him with the ‘Research Excellence in Allergic Diseases Award’ and in 2017 he received the International Distinguished Fellowship from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
