个人简介
Graduated in Applied Biology and MSc in Biophysics and Bionanosystems in University of Minho, currently developing the PhD thesis entitled "GraphLightCancer- Graphene Quantum Dots for cancer theranostic". A trustworthy and hardworking professional with a practical hands-on approach who consistently perseveres to achieve the best results. Fast Learner, resourceful and a strategic thinker from concept to innovative solutions, currently validating a business idea " Nanotechnologic solutions for drug screening and formulations development" with the support of Startup Braga, TecMinho and especially, StartUpVaucher/IAPMEI.
Throughout her scientific career, Telma Soares has published (as first author) one review article in Progress in Neurobiology (IF:13.2) and a scientific article in Frontiers in Chemistry (IF:3.9). Four works of Telma Soares were selected for poster presentations in international congress (two as first author and one as presenting author), being one of them granted with the best poster award with the respective abstract published in Journal of Bioengineering & Biomedical Science. Moreover, three different works of Telma Soares were selected for oral communications in international congresses: RICI’17, Madrid; ImagineNano’18, Bilbao and Nanotech’18, France.
During bachelor degree was treasurer of the Applied Biology Students Association (NEBAUM) as well as chairman in the National Association of Biology Students (ANEBIO). Exercising such functions was organized various scientific events which played an important role in the development of individual responsibility, skills and professional attitude. Regarding the time as treasurer of NEBAUM was done an intensive short course in Associative Accounting which enriched her with the necessary skills for an effective and careful management of funds and grants. As part of Bachelor’s degree research internship was developed the project “In vitro pharmacokinetic profile evaluation of an anticancer drug” in a partnership with the FAMO research group (Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics) having remained as a member of this group since then.
To achieve a master degree in Biophysics and Bionanosystems has developed the thesis “Innovative Nanocarriers for Neuroprotection”. This thesis focuses in developing neuroprotective liposomes specialized in brain delivery of Curcumin, a natural compound known to interact with multiple molecular targets involved in the neurodegeneration cascade. With the same project Telma Soares applied for the Researcher’s Prize contest of University of Minho in partnership with Microsoft, being the youngest and least graduated contestant of the 6 finalists.
After being granted with the Innovative Fellowship’16, an national intensive educational program on technology-based innovation for young talent with technology or market expertise, she started delving in the world of young entrepreneurship, together with the development of EyeOnDrug, a company that aims to provide nanotechnology-based products and services, such as high-throughput screening strategies (HTS) for in vitro drug profiling, both in pharmaceutical and cosmeceutic areas (https://www.eyeondrug.com/). With the same project, was participated in numerous granted formations such as: IdeaLab (TecMinho) – 30h; Business Laboratory (TecMinho) – 28h; Startup Nano (INL) – 36h; Startup Braga Launch Program – 36h and was achieved the finals of two renowned contests – SpinUM’17 and Venture Cup Startup Competition’17. Moreover, was granted by Startup Voucher IAPMEI with a one-year fellowship to the development of the project Nanotechnologic solutions for drug screening and formulations development.
Concerning Learning and Teaching development, she is member, by the U.Porto, of the Erasmus+ project TOX-OER which aims to design and develop an international Massive Open Online Course on Toxicology. Also, was organizer and monitor of theoretical, practical and laboratory classes of the Advanced Course in Bioanosystems for Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Applications in University of Minho since May 2016 and organizer and monitor of practical classes in Bionanosystems Course in the same institution since March 2017. Moreover, she collaborated in the laboratory supervision of several Erasmus and Master students.
Additionally, Telma Soares has achieved the C1 English Proficiency Course, the highest English proficiency level acquirable at UM Babelium Institute. Also, has done the advanced course ‘Being a research Innovator’ at Minho University, School of Medicine and was awarded with a grant that covers all the costs of Pharmaco/Toxicokinetic intensive learning meeting at FFUP (54h).
