- 2019, Contract researcher at ULL. (ProID2017010102).
- 2017-2018, Contract researcher at ULL. (CTQ 2015-73234-JIN)
- 2015- 2016, M. Sc. in Chemistry (Biomolecules) at University of Cadiz, Prof. Guillermo Martínez Massanet.
I completed my Chemistry Degree at ULL in 2010. Then when I have just been finished my career, I received an offered to work as a Chemist’s teacher in a private academy where I spent a few years. In 2015, I got a Master's Scholarship of the Government of the Canary Islands by competitive attendance. Then I went to Cadiz to do a Master Degree in Chemistry, oriented to Biomolecules. Specifically, the title of my master project was “Electrophilic cyclization of 15- acetoxygermacranolides”. I was guided under Prof. Guillermo Martínez Massanet. During this period, I acquired knowledges about different isolation methods to extract natural products from plants. Also, I carried out biomimetic reactions to obtain new compounds. Particularly, this work focused on the electrophilic cyclization of acetylated derivatives of 15-hydroxygermacranolides.
Next year I started my PhD studies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at ULL in the group of "Functional Molecular Systems" under the direction of Dr. Romen Carrillo. I finally obtained my doctorate in the year 2021 ( summa cum laude). My thesis has focused on the development a new reaction based on Dynamic Covalent Chemistry (DCC) based on Tetrazines moieties and the synthesis of capsules by using this new reaction. Particularly, the title of my thesis is “Molecular systems sensitive to a stimulus: efficient synthesis and study of their physicochemical properties”. It’s worth mentioning I have been involved in several research lines, such as: drug delivery systems, molecular sensors, synthetic methodology, ..., but mainly in the field of supramolecular chemistry. In fact, I started my thesis in the field of fullerenes.
During this time, I got a couple of research contracts in both cases by competitive attendance. The first one, I worked on the synthesis of molecular capsules assembled by mechanical bonds whose purpose was to selectively transport drugs. This includes all the efforts to synthesize C60-based capsules. The second one, basically it was about chemistry applied to the conservation of paper and canvas by using phenylboronic acids.
I was also funding from the ULL to perform a short stay abroad within the Erasmus+ program (KA103). I had the opportunity to join in the group of Prof. Christopher A. Schalley at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). During the stay I received knowledge about mass spectrometry analysis and gas-phase chemistry experiments. In particular, I was able to perform different fragmentation experiments and other gas-phase tandem-MS experiments on several organometallic molecular capsules that I had previously synthesized in the laboratory at ULL.
In 2021, I formed part to Orfan Biotech S. L. company. In this period, I was contracted as a researcher to synthesized different bioactive molecules as potential products in treatments of some neurologic diseases.
Also, I got a postdoctoral fellow at ULL by competitive attendance, financed by Consejería de Economía, Conocimiento y Empleo for the execution of actions to boost R & D & I activities, Campus de Excelencia Internacional, CEI-Canarias-ULL (SD-20/05). This research is focused on the synthesis of responsive polymeric particles for drug delivery in colon cancer.
I have recently been awarded a contract as a postdoctoral researcher "Catalina Ruiz" by competitive attendance, financed by Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society, Canary Islands Government (85% co-financed from European Social Fund ) (ACIISI). The research work consists of the search for new antigens for the development of vaccines against cancer and will be carried out at UR and ULL under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Corzana.
I have co-supervised a master's thesis and also I have been the examining board for two master's theses in the master's degree in biomedicine at ULL. In addition, since last year I have taught as an internship professor at both the ULL and UR.
