Bio
Tom Zimmermann received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in solid-state electronics from the University of Ulm, Germany, in 2002, and the Dr.-Ing. degree in the investigation of polarization effects in (III)-nitride microelectromechanical structures and HEMT devices, and high temperature stable diamond electronics from the University of Ulm, Germany. He heads the business unit Biohybrid Systems, Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems, Duisburg, Germany. The research and development activities are dedicated to the development of customized biosensor-solutions mainly in the field of healthcare and bioproduction processes. From 2009 to 2011, he has been a Faculty Member and Research Assistant Professor of Nanotechnology and High-Power Terahertz Devices with the private University of Notre Dame, IN, USA. He joined as a post-doctoral with the University of Notre Dame focusing on microfluidics, AlN/GaN and graphene HEMT devices in 2006. He published world record performances in high frequency high power devices at this time. His research record holds three U.S. patents, 20+ peer-reviewed papers, and 50+ conference proceedings. He has 12 years of experience in nanotechnology and semiconductor research. He received the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE Lester Eastman Conference on High Performance Devices in 2004.
