Dr. Timothy "TJ" Leonard is a longtime educator who emphasizes innovative learning approaches that incorporate knowledge and compassion. Drawing on his teaching experience at Connecticut institutions such as Sacred Heart University and Middlebrook School, Dr. Timothy Leonard currently serves as an assistant professor of academic literacy and linguistics at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. TJ Leonard’s full-time faculty responsibilities encompass student advising as well as teaching, and he designs lessons for a diverse student population. Among the courses he has developed and taught are “Community Literacy” and “Introduction to Critical Thinking.” A respected voice in his field, Dr. Leonard authored the 2020 piece “Integrating service-learning pedagogy into community college coursework: A phenomenological study,” which was published in the International Journal of Innovative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. In addition to his work as educator, he leads ConnArtists Concerts and works with local Connecticut music venues to promote unique intimate concerts featuring established performers, from Stephen Kellogg to Brian Jarvis.
